Tarahumara’s Mexican Cafe- Norman OK

My dear family trying to choose what to order!

So, I apologize for my absence over the last week!  Joe Bob and I were moving into our house in Norman.  We are so happy to be back!  My family came to help us do some unpacking and shopping on Saturday and we stopped by one of our old favorites, Tarahumara’s Mexican Cafe.  I am a huge fan of this place and Mexican food in general, Joe Bob on the other hand, after being forced by the military to live 3 miles from Mexico and then again in San Antonio, is not a fan of Mexican food.  So, it is honestly a rare treat to get him to go with me.  Either that or I have to sneak away with some girlfriends or my family to grab it!  Why did I choose a partner in life that does not like Mexican food?  I’m still trying to answer this question.  I still love him though ;)

This became one of our favorite places after eating there multiple times a week with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law while we were all in college.  This is their favorite place to eat in Norman and every time they return, they are sure to stop in!

Chips, Salsa, Cheese Sauce...yummy

So there is almost always a wait at Tarahumara’s, but it is never long and is well worth it.  The second you sit down, they bring you chips, salsa (slightly hot, so wait for your drink!), cheese sauce, and flour tortillas.  It never fails, I forget to leave room in my tummy for my actual entree, but somehow squeeze the food in my belly.

Beef and Cheese Enchiladas

I get the beef and cheese enchilada plate with a taco.  Very simple, no frills Mexican food.  Betsy, my little sister got the taco plate.  It is just a beautiful sight!  Taco PlateAll of this comes out fast, with the best service around.  Your drink, chips, salsa, cheese sauce, or tortillas will never run out.  Your food will be out within ten minutes of ordering and the staff are very friendly and helpful.  On top of all this, it is very affordable and you get a free sopapilla at the end!  Who can argue with that!  This is definitely one of my favorite places in Norman.  Stop by and try it.

Tea Cafe- Norman, OK

The Most Amazing Hot and Sour Soup I've EVER had

So a few years back when Joe and I were going to school at OU in Norman, we happened upon this lovely little restaurant next to a tanning salon in a shopping center at 12th and Alameda.  Joe and I tend to wonder into interesting looking restaurants without hearing about them just to try them out.  We hit a gold mine with Tea Cafe.

Sweet and sour chicken box...yum-O

We were back in Norman on our house hunt and decided to try the new Tea Cafe on Campus Corner.  This review will not include reviews on all of the teas and such that they actually have (I think the “Tea” part actually stands for The East Asia), because to tell you the truth, I don’t know how to order that stuff when we go, but it all looks delicious (Someone come with me and teach me how!)  Now when we first ate at Tea Cafe, I was used to Chinese food at a buffet.  I had never really ordered it at a restaurant (I have come a long way since then).  I order the Box Combo with Sweet and Sour Chicken.  It comes with chicken, sweet and sour sauce, a cheese wonton, a spring roll, garlic cabbage (I could live on this stuff its so good), and hot and sour soup.  When I first ate here, a lot of these flavors were foreign to me, so I was really going out on a limb!  This is one of the most simple things on the menu you can get as they have a WIDE selection of dishes.  Joe gets the kung pao chicken.  This has just the right amount of spice and is packed with flavor.

Kung Pao Chicken

These dishes may sound rather boring, but it is your usual Chinese buffet dishes that are cooked freshly and made with care.  Plus, a couple can get out of there with spending less than $15 on a nice, delicious dinner.  The Campus Corner Tea Cafe is very industrial modern, which has to be one of my favorite decor types.  They also have an asparagus painted wall (It’s a paint color, I’m rather obsessed with)!

When in Norman, go to Tea Cafe for a quick, cheap, delicious sit down dinner that promises to please your tummies and also your wallets!
